Important changes coming to your MYOB Greentree environment in 2026

A plain-English guide to the Microsoft Exchange Web Services retirement, the new Greentree 2026.1 release, and eInvoicing through the Peppol network.

There are a few developments worth having on your radar this year — one of them with a firm deadline.

The most important is a change coming from Microsoft that affects how Greentree sends and receives email. It isn’t driven by MYOB or Verde, but it does need attention before 1 October 2026 to keep things running smoothly. Alongside it, the latest Greentree 2026.1 release is now available, and the eInvoicing module continues to gather pace as both the New Zealand and Australian governments push adoption forward. Here’s what each change means and what, if anything, you need to do.

The one to action: Microsoft is retiring Exchange Web Services

Microsoft is switching off Exchange Web Services (EWS) for Exchange Online. The change is being rolled out in phases: from 1 October 2026 Microsoft begins blocking EWS requests, with a permanent shutdown following in April 2027. It’s an industry-wide move that affects every software vendor connecting to Microsoft 365 in this way — and Greentree is no exception.

MYOB Greentree relies on EWS for two things you most likely use every day:

  • eDocs email — automatically capturing supplier invoices and other documents from shared mailboxes into Greentree.

  • Email-out via Microsoft 365 — sending remittance advices, customer statements, order confirmations and other system-generated emails.

If you use either, your Greentree environment needs to be on version 2026.1 before 1 October 2026. After that date, these features stop working on earlier versions.

The good news: the fix already exists.

Greentree 2026.1 introduces support for Microsoft Graph, the modern, more secure replacement for EWS. Upgrading before the deadline moves your email and eDocs across, so everything keeps working without interruption.

How to tell if this affects you

A quick indicator: if you or Verde regularly refresh Greentree’s Microsoft 365 connection — those authentication “tokens” that expire every 90 days — you’re on the connection Microsoft is switching off, and the 2026.1 upgrade is the fix.

To confirm, a system administrator can check the email protocol in each of the areas below. The protocol is set independently in each one — it’s common to find Exchange Web Services configured in one area but not another — so each should be checked separately. Wherever the protocol shows Exchange Web Services, that feature needs to move to Microsoft Graph as part of the 2026.1 upgrade.

  • Sending email (system-wide) — General System Preferences, Email settings.

  • Sending email (per company, if used) — Company Maintenance, Emailing Preferences.

  • CRM inbound email filing — the CRM inbound email configuration (Inbound Emails).

  • eDocs email import — eDocs Module Control, Credentials (the Protocol field).

  • EDI export profiles — any eXchange EDI export profile where the destination is email.

  • EDI import profiles — any eXchange EDI import profile (Email Fetch Tasks) where the source is email.

MYOB Greentree 2026.1 is now available

2026.1 is more than a compliance update. As well as keeping your Microsoft 365 email and eDocs working past the EWS change above, it delivers the latest New Zealand and Australian payroll statutory updates and a handful of everyday usability improvements. Here are the highlights.

Keeping your email working

  • Microsoft Graph support — the replacement for the Exchange Web Services connection Microsoft is retiring on 1 October 2026. It keeps email sending and receiving, eDocs email capture and EDI email working. A system administrator simply needs to switch to Microsoft Graph and authenticate — we recommend doing this well before the deadline.

Payroll compliance

  • New Zealand KiwiSaver — new features to keep NZ payroll in line with the 2026 KiwiSaver legislation changes.

  • Australian Payday Super — new Payday Super features for AU payroll, including an updated protected earnings amount ($544.88) effective 1 January 2026.

Usability improvements

  • See an employee’s leave at a glance — a new Leave Requests sub-tab on HR Employee Maintenance, plus employee filters on View Leave Requests, show all of an employee’s requests (past, future, approved, declined or awaiting approval) in one place.

  • Copy payroll transaction types — set up a new pay, deduction, tax or employer cost in a fraction of the time by copying an existing one.

  • Longer Job Cost activity codes — activity codes can now be up to 12 characters and appear across more screens (CRM quotes, requisitions, purchase orders, pay entry, and related eDoc and inventory screens), making coding much easier on larger sites.

Stay compliant and error-free with MYOB Greentree eInvoicing

Both the Australian and New Zealand governments are accelerating eInvoicing adoption, and MYOB Greentree is ready. The MYOB Greentree eInvoicing module lets you receive supplier invoices electronically via the secure Peppol network — reducing manual data entry, errors and processing delays.

Verde has taken this a step further with our Apps for Greentree solution. App 140006 – Sending eInvoices enables you to also send Peppol-compatible eInvoices directly from Greentree through Xtracta’s eDocs workflow. That gives you end-to-end eInvoicing across both accounts payable and accounts receivable, while staying in the Greentree system you already know.
