The cloud is rolling in: How a Business Requirements Assessment guides your company’s software strategy

Business, like technology, rarely stands still. With the developments taking place particularly in cloud technology, we’re seeing a level of maturity that is making ‘upper end’ applications including Enterprise Resource Planning suitable for more organisations than ever. The question is: Does this extend to YOUR company?

There’s a good reason for asking the question. After all, despite the big moves in cloud, and the increasing numbers of organisations that have made the leap (usually successfully), a significant percentage are still on legacy systems. What this means, in short, is untapped potential for taking advantage of the by-now familiar benefits of the cloud: attractive ‘op-ex’ pricing, flexibility, scale, and more.

Despite those benefits, perhaps thrown into the starkest relief of all by the COVID lockdowns and sudden pivot to ‘work from home’ (which truly demonstrated the value of ‘anywhere access’), questions linger for many businesses. Good questions, as it happens.

After all, migrating from one ERP to another isn’t for the faint-hearted, even when it is a ‘like for like’ migration. Throw in additional substantial change, such as a shift from the known-quantity of on-premises to the brave new world of cloud, and the challenge undergoes another level of magnification.

As is always the case when considering any change, assessing risk versus reward, and cost versus benefit is a crucial source of motivation. Simply put, if the numbers add up, it helps get things moving. If the benefits are clear and likely to translate smoothly from paper to reality, momentum gathers. If the migration path is clear and led by an experienced and proven implementation partner, less is left to guesswork and risk.

That’s why I encourage you to consider our independent Business Requirements Assessment if you are still using a legacy or on-premises ERP solution. This is a comprehensive service that analyses the requirements of your organisation, contextualises them, and results in the delivery of a range of recommendations.

Here at Verde, we stake our reputation on the successful delivery of fit-for-purpose ERP solutions which set you up for long-term success. If we go ahead and recommend and then implement a dud, it hurts you just as much as it hurts us. ERP is no trivial thing; it is like a marriage, which requires considerable work from planning the wedding, right through to the diamond anniversary. Done right, your ERP should absolutely last that long!

To get a good idea of how we deliver our Business Requirements Assessment service, check out what we did with Cognition Education. This company really wanted a clear, independent view of what it needed from its ERP solution, with an eventual outcome being an RFP setting out precise specifications which left no room for assumptions, while accelerating the process for potential bidders.

Now, with cloud ERP becoming an increasingly attractive, and increasingly market-proven solution for industries including your own, a Business Requirements Assessment can lay bare the opportunities and advantages which may await you. And just as importantly, this assessment will also highlight the risks and disadvantages such a move might entail.
